Transitional justice and the power of memory politics
This open lecture series will speak to the ongoing debate in the field of transitional justice regarding whether it is best to pursue post-conflict justice and reconciliation strategies from the top-down or bottom-u, i.e. should states or international organizations lead these efforts, or should they be developed and implemented by local, grassroots actors. In an effort to build across regional borders, inducing case studies from Bosnia-Herzegovina, Chile, Jerusalem, Rwanda and Solomon Islands. Each lecture will reflect on important questions surrounding the possible risks and benefits of pursuing transitional justice from above or below.
